Here is a peak into the early stages of the design process for our etched glass art!
I may actually consider this "pre-design," because no thought has actually gone into a final product, it is more about establishing shapes and values that can now be molded into a composition that would be successful as an independent piece.
From here we will have to consider a lot of different variables; some relating to our process and all of them relating to general design theory. Composition, value/contrast, hierarchy, edge control, size, as well as physical restraints provided by our tools are all factors here. We end up pulling techniques and processes from printmaking, darkroom photography, street art, airbrushing, among others (it is normal for each new design to provide its own unique challenges)
So all that being said, these drawings will probably go through a lot of modifications before we do any actual etching, but I thought it would be fun to provide a little more insight into the process as we go through it this time around!
